Indiana Football Loses Two Defensive Linemen to Transfer Portal Following Spring Game
Indiana football’s depth on the defensive line took a hit as two players—Marcus Burris Jr. and Robby Harrison—entered the transfer portal just days after the team’s spring game.
Marcus Burris Jr., who transferred to Indiana from Texas A&M, has entered the portal again. During his two seasons with the Hoosiers, Burris recorded 34 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks. After redshirting due to an Achilles injury as a freshman, Burris played in all 12 games (eight starts) in 2023 and all 13 games (three starts) in 2024 under new head coach Curt Cignetti and defensive coordinator Bryant Haines. Originally from Texarkana, Texas, Burris was a four-star recruit and ranked No. 137 nationally in his high school class, per 247Sports Composite.
Scouting reports praised Burris for his run defense, tackling ability, and improved pursuit speed, though they noted areas for development, including his pass rush move set and explosiveness off the snap.
Meanwhile, defensive lineman Robby Harrison also entered the transfer portal and has already committed to Western Kentucky. Harrison, who began his college career at Arizona State, saw limited playing time at Indiana—appearing in just 21 snaps last season. The 6-foot-4, 311-pound lineman was a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 21 player from South Carolina in his class.
Indiana has brought in defensive linemen Hosea Wheeler (from Western Kentucky) and Dominique Ratcliff (from Texas State) to help replace outgoing players James Carpenter and CJ West.
Indiana is set to open its 2025 season at home against Old Dominion on August 30.
