Packers QB Jordan Love Backs Jaire Alexander Amid Trade Rumors
Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love recently voiced support for cornerback Jaire Alexander, who has been the subject of trade speculation following another injury-shortened season.
When asked about Alexander potentially being traded, Love said he hasn’t personally discussed it with him but emphasized the cornerback’s importance to the team.
“Ja has his own stuff going on, so I let him handle that,” Love said during an appearance on the Up & Adams Show. “But he’s definitely someone we need. The way he plays and the presence he brings—he’s a guy we want to keep around. We’ll see what happens.”
Alexander has missed considerable time in recent seasons, playing in only seven games in each of the last two years. His most recent absence was due to a PCL tear in 2024, which sidelined him after Week 12. Since 2021, he’s missed half of the Packers’ games.
Despite the injuries, Green Bay signed Alexander to a four-year, $84 million contract extension in 2022. That deal made him the highest-paid cornerback at the time and still ranks him in the top five by average annual salary. He rewarded the team initially with a Pro Bowl nod but has struggled with injuries since.
Following the team’s playoff exit in January, general manager Brian Gutekunst acknowledged the frustrations surrounding Alexander’s health but didn’t rule out keeping him. In February, reports emerged that the Packers were open to trading him for the right return.
While Alexander remains on the roster, the team still has time this offseason to explore trade options—especially with the NFL Draft approaching. A cornerback selection early in the draft could be a sign the Packers are preparing to move on.
Love, however, hopes that doesn’t happen.
“He’s got a big personality in the locker room—he jokes around but is also super competitive,” Love said. “On the field, he brings something special. I hope he stays with us.”
