Indiana wide receiver Tyler Morris will miss the entire 2025 season after suffering a non-contact knee injury during spring camp, as announced by head coach Curt Cignetti. Morris is set to undergo surgery to address the injury. The injury leaves Indiana thin at receiver, as Morris had been expected to start at slot receiver this fall after transferring from Michigan.
“We’ve stayed relatively healthy except for Tyler Morris, who had a non-contact knee injury and will require surgery, missing the season,” Cignetti stated. Morris, who transferred to Indiana after three years at Michigan, was projected to be a key part of the Hoosiers’ receiving corps. The injury leaves Indiana’s receiving unit in a depleted state. Along with Morris, Makai Jackson has been limited by a hamstring injury, further impacting depth at the position.
As it stands, Indiana now has just seven available scholarship receivers for spring camp: Jackson, Omar Cooper, Elijah Sarratt, E.J. Williams, Charlie Becker, Myles Kendrick, and LeBron Bond. Incoming freshman Davion Chandler will join the team in the summer, adding some depth ahead of fall camp. Cignetti acknowledged the team’s current shortage of receivers but expressed confidence in the group that is available: “I like our top-line guys,” he said.
With Morris out for the season, Indiana may consider adding a transfer receiver during the upcoming spring transfer portal window to bolster the position. “Will we go shopping for another capable guy in case we have an injury? Perhaps,” Cignetti remarked.
During his three years at Michigan, the 5-foot-11, 185-pound Morris appeared in 34 games with 12 starts. He totaled 39 receptions for 470 yards and three touchdowns and also contributed on special teams with 14 punt returns. Morris was Michigan’s second-leading receiver in 2024 with 248 yards and two touchdowns. He was part of Michigan’s undefeated National Championship team in 2023, recording 13 receptions for 197 yards and one touchdown. As a freshman in 2022, he had three receptions for 25 yards. Morris was a highly-rated recruit coming out of Nazareth Academy, ranked as the 104th overall player nationally by 247Sports. He still has one year of eligibility remaining, with the option of using a redshirt year if needed.
