The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have announced that their annual Irish Wear Green game will be held on October 4 against the Boise State Broncos.
Although themed color games like “green outs” are typically reserved for major home night matchups, Notre Dame has been flexible with the timing of these events in recent years. Unlike some past inconsistencies, the team will actually wear green uniforms for this occasion, a welcome return to tradition after a period when the name and attire didn’t always align.
In past seasons, Notre Dame wore green for games such as the 2022 matchup against Cal, 2023 versus Ohio State, and 2024 against Louisville. However, in 2018, the team called for a “green out” against Michigan but ended up wearing blue jerseys. Later that same season, they did wear green on Senior Day against Florida State.
This year’s opponent, Boise State, adds an interesting element to the theme. The Broncos are known for wearing all-blue uniforms on their signature blue turf, a tactic that has caused confusion and debate over the years. Now, Notre Dame will meet them in an all-green look on green turf—bringing a bit of poetic symmetry to the occasion.
The game is part of a growing tradition that blends fan participation, team branding, and unique visual identity, giving both players and supporters something special to rally behind during the season.
