College football recruiting is full of surprises, and losing a high-profile quarterback can be a major setback—especially for programs outside the traditional recruiting powerhouses. That’s exactly what happened to Boise State on Thursday.
Bryson Beaver, a quarterback from Murrieta, California, who was once rated a four-star and is now considered a three-star prospect, has withdrawn his commitment to the Broncos. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound passer had pledged to Boise State back in April, but that decision appears to have changed following a scholarship offer from the Oregon Ducks.
According to On3, Beaver also holds offers from schools like Northern Arizona, San Jose State, Nevada, and Florida Atlantic.
Boise State’s 2026 recruiting class currently ranks 64th nationally and includes commitments from three-star wide receivers Terrious Favors (Atlanta, GA) and AJ Logan (San Diego, CA), along with another three-star quarterback, Tradon Bessinger from Kaysville, Utah.
This fall, the Broncos will lean on redshirt junior Maddux Madsen at quarterback. Madsen threw for 3,018 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions last season and is one of seven returning starters on offense.
Meanwhile, Oregon continues building a formidable 2026 recruiting class despite limited numbers—just seven commitments so far. Their class is headlined by five-star tight end Kendre Harrison, a 6-foot-6, 250-pound standout ranked 38th nationally and third at his position, per Rivals.
The Ducks have struggled to land top-tier quarterbacks in the 2026 cycle, missing out on elite names like Faizon Brandon, the nation’s top-ranked player who chose Tennessee. So far, Oregon has extended 21 quarterback offers, with Beaver among the lower-ranked targets.
