Clemson Dismisses Four-Star Running Back Marquis Henderson
Freshman running back Marquis Henderson has been dismissed from the Clemson football program, according to a team spokesperson. Henderson, who enrolled early and participated sparingly in spring practice, was removed from the team for reasons that were not disclosed.
A statement from Clemson said, “Clemson has made the decision to dismiss Marquis Henderson from its program. We wish him the best as he moves forward.”
Henderson was a highly regarded recruit in the 2025 class, ranked as the 205th-best overall prospect and the 10th-best running back nationally. He joined Clemson after graduating from Belton-Honea Path High School in South Carolina.
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney confirmed after the spring game in April that Henderson had left the program after practicing only during the first week of camp. Henderson had long been committed to Clemson, officially signing in December 2023 despite interest from multiple other schools including Boston College, Cincinnati, and NC State.
In high school, Henderson was a standout player, setting several records with over 8,200 all-purpose yards in 49 games and scoring 63 rushing touchdowns. He also averaged an impressive 10.5 yards per carry over four seasons.
Henderson’s dismissal marks the first from the Clemson program since linebacker TJ Dottery was removed two years ago for an undisclosed violation of team rules.
