Indiana Guard Jason Drake Sidelined with Injury, Misses Puerto Rico Trip
Indiana men’s basketball opened its exhibition tour with a dominant 98–47 win over Universidad de Bayamon on Wednesday night, but junior guard Jason Drake did not play or travel with the team.
Head coach Darian DeVries confirmed after the game that Drake is dealing with a lower body injury. He was previously seen riding a stationary bike during an open practice on July 30 in Bloomington. No further details on his recovery timeline were provided.
Drake, a transfer from Drexel, averaged 11.1 points, 3.1 assists, and 3 rebounds per game last season, shooting nearly 40% from three-point range.
Also absent from the trip is Bosnian center Andrej Acimovic, who is still awaiting visa approval. He is expected to join the team in Bloomington by the end of August.
Junior guard Nick Dorn, who has an undisclosed injury, did travel to Puerto Rico but did not suit up for the game. He was seen on the bench in casual attire.
Indiana’s next exhibition game will be against Serbian professional club Mega Superbet on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Coliseo Roberto Clemente.
