The Atlanta Falcons have brought back safety Henry Black, giving him a second opportunity with the team. Black was previously with Atlanta during the 2022 preseason but was released during the final roster cuts. Now, with training camp underway, he has been re-signed in hopes of competing for a spot in the defensive rotation.
To make room for Black on the 90-man roster, the Falcons waived wide receiver Makai Polk. Polk had been working to earn a role within the team’s receiving corps but will now have to seek opportunities elsewhere as the team continues to fine-tune its roster.
Black began his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers after going undrafted in 2020. He saw action in 25 games over two seasons, recording 46 total tackles, one interception, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. His time in Green Bay marked the most significant regular-season experience of his career to date.
After leaving the Packers, Black spent time with both the Indianapolis Colts and Pittsburgh Steelers, though he didn’t appear in regular-season games for either team. Earlier this year, he played for San Antonio in the UFL, where he registered 21 tackles over 10 games, keeping himself active and ready for another NFL opportunity.
With this latest signing, the Falcons are likely looking to boost their depth in the secondary heading into the preseason. Black’s prior experience and recent UFL play could make him a valuable asset in training camp competition as he aims to secure a spot on the final roster.
