Latest Reports on Maxwell Hairston Stir Concerns Among Bills Fans
The NFL offseason may be short in duration, but it often feels like it drags on, especially when fans and analysts begin to form opinions about rookies who haven’t yet played a professional snap. This year, the focus in Buffalo is on cornerback Maxwell Hairston, the Bills’ first-round draft pick out of Kentucky.
Since Hairston was selected, reports from team activities have been somewhat underwhelming. While it’s far too early to panic, that hasn’t stopped growing unease among fans and media.
The most recent concern comes from a Bleacher Report list of rookies who are already raising red flags. Hairston was included, and a quote from defensive coordinator Bobby Babich stood out:
“There’s a difference between having speed and playing fast,” Babich told ESPN. “We’re starting to see Max play faster as he begins to process things more quickly. He’s got great speed, and we’ll see if that consistently shows up on the field.”
The key takeaway is the need for consistency. While Hairston’s athletic ability is evident, his technique and physicality have reportedly fluctuated during early practices. This inconsistency could be a concern if it continues into the season.
If this were the only less-than-glowing review of Hairston so far, it likely wouldn’t draw much attention. But after several similar reports, doubts are beginning to surface—an uncomfortable position for any first-round pick trying to make a strong early impression.
It’s still too soon to judge Hairston’s future, and there’s plenty of time for growth. But for now, it’s understandable if Bills fans are starting to feel a bit uneasy. With the regular season ahead, the hope is that these offseason concerns will be a distant memory by the fall.
