Indiana has secured a key addition to its 2026 football recruiting class with the commitment of three-star safety Jamar Owens. A native of Georgia, Owens announced his decision to join the Hoosiers on social media.
The 6-foot, 180-pound defender plays at Jonesboro High School in Douglasville, Georgia. In his junior season, Owens recorded 70 tackles, including three for loss, along with three interceptions and two forced fumbles. He attracted significant attention during his recruitment, earning offers from top programs such as LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Oregon, and Florida State.
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Owens is rated as the No. 71 safety nationally, No. 837 overall prospect, and the 95th-best recruit in the state of Georgia. He cited his strong connection with Indiana defensive backs coach Matt Haines as a key factor in his decision, expressing confidence in the coaching staff’s vision and trust in his potential to compete early.
With Owens on board, Indiana’s 2026 recruiting class now includes 19 commitments. The group features prospects from across the country, including four-star talents like edge rusher Kevontay Hugan and defensive lineman Gabe Hill, as well as several promising three-star players at key positions.
This addition highlights Indiana’s efforts to strengthen its defensive depth and build a competitive roster for the future, continuing its push to recruit nationally and bring in athletes with both skill and upside.
