Auburn fans may have spent Saturday wishing they could turn back the clock after former Tigers wide receiver Cam Coleman produced another spectacular moment at Texas. The talented receiver’s latest highlight has quickly gone viral, offering a painful reminder of the player Auburn once had and the version of him that supporters never quite got to see develop on the Plains.
Coleman entered college football with enormous expectations. As a five-star prospect and the No. 5 overall recruit in the 2024 class, he arrived at Auburn carrying the kind of reputation reserved for elite talents. It did not take long for him to demonstrate why so many programs wanted him.
As a true freshman, Coleman made an immediate impact in the Southeastern Conference. He finished the season with 37 receptions for 598 yards and eight touchdowns, earning SEC All-Freshman honors in the process. His combination of size, athleticism, speed and ability to make difficult catches suggested that Auburn had potentially found one of the program’s next great offensive weapons.
For Auburn supporters, Coleman’s emergence seemed to represent the beginning of something exciting.
Unfortunately, that excitement did not last as long as many hoped.
As Auburn’s offense struggled, Coleman’s opportunities to consistently showcase his talent became increasingly limited. The team’s offensive issues made it difficult for him to build on his impressive freshman campaign, and by the conclusion of his sophomore season, his time on the Plains was over.
Coleman eventually entered the transfer portal and quickly became one of the most sought-after players available. In fact, he left Auburn as the No. 1 overall player in the transfer portal before ultimately choosing to continue his career with the Texas Longhorns.
That decision has already begun to look increasingly significant.
During Texas’ fall camp, Coleman delivered a breathtaking play that reminded everyone of the extraordinary talent he possesses. A short video from practice showing the receiver making an incredible one-handed catch quickly spread across social media, generating millions of views within only a few hours.

At Texas, Coleman now has the opportunity to catch passes from Arch Manning, a quarterback widely regarded as one of the most gifted young players in college football. The pairing could become one of the most exciting quarterback-receiver combinations in the country if their chemistry continues to develop.
Coleman has already spoken positively about the relationship he is building with Manning. Their work together in practice has reportedly included detailed discussions about route positioning and where Manning wants Coleman to be on particular plays.
That level of communication could be extremely important.
A receiver with Coleman’s physical abilities can be dangerous in almost any offense, but putting him in a system that allows him to use his entire skill set could take his game to another level. Texas appears to be giving him that opportunity.

Auburn supporters can certainly appreciate what Coleman is capable of while also wondering what might have happened if the Tigers had been able to keep him in their program.
For Coleman, however, the focus is likely much simpler. He appears to have found a situation where he believes his talent can be fully utilized, and his early performances suggest he is determined to make the most of it.

For Auburn fans, the feeling is understandably different.
They already know how talented Cam Coleman can be. They simply wish they had gotten the chance to see this version of him develop in orange and blue.
