The St. Louis Cardinals ended a difficult stretch in impressive fashion Saturday night, cruising to a commanding 7-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds behind another outstanding performance from starting pitcher Andre Pallante.
Pallante delivered one of his best outings of the season, matching his season high with eight strikeouts while limiting Cincinnati’s lineup to just two hits across seven scoreless innings. He also surrendered only one walk, keeping the Reds off balance throughout the contest and improving his season record to 11-6. Gordon Graceffo handled the final two innings out of the bullpen to complete the shutout.
The win was an important one for St. Louis, which entered the game having lost six of its previous seven contests, including two straight. The victory gave the Cardinals a much-needed confidence boost as they look to regain momentum.

From that point on, Pallante controlled the pace of the game. Cincinnati rarely threatened, managing only two hits and never finding an answer against the Cardinals’ right-hander. His ability to mix pitches, generate strikeouts, and induce weak contact allowed him to work efficiently through seven dominant innings.
For the Reds, Hunter Greene struggled in his fourth start since returning from the injured list earlier this month. The hard-throwing right-hander surrendered seven runs, six of them earned, on eight hits while walking two batters over 5⅓ innings. The sixth inning proved especially costly as the Cardinals capitalized on nearly every scoring opportunity.
Despite the disappointing loss, Cincinnati had entered Saturday’s matchup with momentum after winning three consecutive games and five of seven contests since the All-Star break. The defeat halted that positive run and evened the tone heading into the series finale.
The Cardinals, meanwhile, will hope Saturday’s convincing victory marks the beginning of a turnaround. Their offense showed signs of life after recent struggles, while the pitching staff delivered exactly the type of performance needed to support a club attempting to climb back into contention.
St. Louis also received contributions throughout the lineup rather than relying on a single star. Timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and solid execution with runners in scoring position highlighted the club’s most complete performance in several games.
The two National League Central rivals will wrap up the series on Sunday. Cincinnati is expected to send left-hander Andrew Abbott to the mound as he searches for his first victory since June 20. The Cardinals are scheduled to counter with right-hander Kyle Leahy, who has been one of the club’s reliable starters this season.
After Saturday’s dominant showing, St. Louis will look to carry its renewed confidence into the series finale, while Cincinnati aims to bounce back quickly and avoid ending the weekend on a disappointing note.
