BREAKING: Lions Get Huge Update on Superstar

The Detroit Lions have been linked to several high-profile pass rushers over the last few years, but they have repeatedly fallen short of adding another elite edge defender to complement Aidan Hutchinson. Now, a new development involving Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby could provide Detroit with another opportunity to pursue one of the NFL’s premier defensive playmakers.

Earlier this offseason, Crosby appeared to be on the move when the Raiders agreed to send him to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for two first-round draft picks. However, the trade never became official after Baltimore reportedly raised concerns following Crosby’s physical examination. The veteran defensive end had undergone knee surgery and was still recovering at the time, leading the Ravens to withdraw from the agreement.

As a result, Crosby remained with the Raiders and returned to Las Vegas for the 2026 season. While there has been no indication that either side is actively seeking a separation, recent reports suggest the possibility of a future trade cannot be ruled out.

According to reports from Las Vegas, interest in Crosby remains extremely strong around the league. Although the Raiders are not openly shopping him and Crosby has not publicly requested a move, teams continue to monitor the situation closely. The level of interest alone keeps trade speculation alive and leaves the door open for discussions later this summer or before the NFL trade deadline.

For the Lions, that possibility is significant.

Detroit has built one of the NFL’s most talented rosters under general manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell. The team has established itself as a legitimate Super Bowl contender, but many analysts believe the defense still lacks one key component: a second elite pass rusher opposite Hutchinson.

Throughout the past several seasons, Hutchinson has carried much of the burden as Detroit’s primary edge threat. While he has developed into one of the league’s top defensive players, opponents have often been able to focus protection schemes on him due to the absence of another dominant pass-rushing presence on the opposite side.

Several analysts have argued that this weakness has prevented Detroit from reaching its full defensive potential.

ESPN analyst Bill Barnwell recently pointed out that the Lions may have been one of the teams that could have benefited most from acquiring a star pass rusher such as Myles Garrett or Maxx Crosby. Barnwell has consistently maintained that Detroit’s defense would become substantially more dangerous if Hutchinson were paired with another elite edge defender.

According to Barnwell, the Lions have spent years searching for the ideal running mate for Hutchinson. Injuries and inconsistent production from other defensive linemen have left Detroit without a reliable second star on the edge. As a result, opposing offenses have often been able to dedicate additional blockers to slowing Hutchinson down.

Barnwell suggested that Detroit’s most aggressive remaining option may be to package premium draft assets in exchange for an established superstar. Such a move would signal an all-in approach aimed at winning a championship while the Lions’ current roster remains in its competitive window.

If Crosby becomes available, he would immediately rank among the most attractive targets on the market.

Despite dealing with injuries in recent years, Crosby remains one of the NFL’s most productive and respected defensive ends. His relentless motor, leadership qualities, and versatility have made him a cornerstone player for the Raiders and one of the league’s most feared defenders.

Statistically, Crosby has experienced some fluctuations over the past two seasons. Injuries limited his availability in 2024, causing his overall rankings among edge defenders to dip compared to previous years. Nevertheless, he rebounded with another strong campaign and continued to demonstrate why he is regarded as one of the best players at his position.

One area where Crosby continues to excel is run defense. He remains among the league’s elite at setting the edge and disrupting running plays before they develop. His ability to combine pass-rushing production with outstanding run-stopping skills makes him a complete defensive end rather than a one-dimensional specialist.

Last season, Crosby recorded 10 sacks and finished near the top of the NFL in tackles for loss. Those numbers reinforced his reputation as a player capable of impacting games in multiple ways, even when opposing offenses devote extra attention to stopping him.

His accomplishments throughout his career are equally impressive. Crosby has earned five Pro Bowl selections and multiple All-Pro honors, establishing himself as one of the defining defensive players of his generation. His consistency, effort, and durability over most of his career have helped elevate him into the upper tier of NFL defenders.

Of course, any team considering a trade would need to evaluate both the acquisition cost and the financial commitment involved.

Crosby is under contract through the 2029 season after signing a lucrative extension worth more than $100 million. While that contract secures his services for several years, it also represents a substantial investment. Teams would need to determine whether his future production will continue to justify his salary as he moves further into his thirties.

For Detroit, the calculation may be relatively straightforward.

The Lions possess one of the deepest and most talented rosters in football, but that success comes with challenges. As young stars become eligible for lucrative contract extensions, maintaining the current core will become increasingly difficult. The team’s championship window is open now, and opportunities to add elite talent do not come around often.

Trading for Crosby would undoubtedly require significant draft capital, likely including at least a first-round pick and potentially additional assets. However, Detroit could view that price as worthwhile if it believes Crosby is the final piece needed to elevate the defense from very good to championship-caliber.

While there is no guarantee that the Raiders will ultimately move their star defender, the fact that trade discussions remain possible is encouraging news for teams like the Lions. As long as interest exists and Las Vegas remains willing to listen, Detroit could emerge as one of the franchises most motivated to make a blockbuster offer.

Should Crosby become available, the Lions may have an opportunity to pair one of the NFL’s most relentless pass rushers with Hutchinson, creating a defensive front capable of overwhelming opponents and strengthening Detroit’s pursuit of a Super Bowl title.
