The Atlanta Falcons are facing early challenges on their offensive line just weeks before the start of the 2025–26 season. Reports confirm that one player has undergone surgery, while another suffered an injury during practice.
Veteran offensive tackle Storm Norton, 31, underwent ankle surgery on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He is expected to miss six to eight weeks while recovering. Adding to the concern, starting right tackle Kaleb McGary was carted off the field Wednesday with a lower-body injury. McGary is undergoing an MRI, and the severity of his condition is still unclear.
If McGary’s injury proves to be serious, the Falcons may be forced to turn to rookie Jack Nelson, a late-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Nelson is competing with Brandon Parker for a roster spot, while undrafted free agent Jordan Williams could also be considered as a depth option.
These setbacks come at a difficult time for Atlanta, as expectations are high with rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. set to lead the offense. He has shown growing chemistry with key playmakers Drake London, Kyle Pitts, and Bijan Robinson, but a weakened offensive line could hinder the team’s performance at the start of the season.
The Falcons are expected to provide more information on McGary’s status in the coming days. As for Norton, he is likely to be placed on injured reserve and sidelined for several weeks.
