A.J. Brown Didn’t Choose Georgia Because of One Unusual Reason: The Socks
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown recently shared a surprising reason he didn’t commit to the University of Georgia during his college recruitment — he couldn’t stand the idea of wearing black socks.
Speaking on the “Pardon My Take” podcast, Brown said, “I didn’t choose Georgia because I don’t like wearing black socks. And that may sound crazy, but I hate wearing black socks. Putting on black socks with black cleats — it’s so hideous.”
While this might seem trivial to some, Brown emphasized how important personal appearance and comfort are to athletes. Uniform choices can influence a player’s mindset, and Brown preferred wearing white socks, which he says made him feel “fast” and “smooth.”
Instead of Georgia, Brown committed to Ole Miss, where he enjoyed a stellar college career, racking up 2,984 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns over three seasons — all in white socks.
That choice clearly worked out. Brown has gone on to become one of the NFL’s top receivers, earning four second-team All-Pro honors with the Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Eagles. He also helped lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl title last seasons.
