Louisville Commit Sam Dawson Taking on Bigger Role at South Oldham
Louisville defensive line commit Sam Dawson is preparing for a significant senior season at South Oldham High School. Following the graduation of the team’s entire offensive line, Dawson is set to take on responsibilities on both offense and defense.
Last season, Dawson played 19 snaps on offense, giving him the most experience on South Oldham’s rebuilt offensive front. He welcomes the expanded role.
“It’s definitely going to be a bigger job,” Dawson said. “I’ll need to stay focused and work more on conditioning.”
Dawson’s leadership will be essential this year. Coaches are encouraging him to become more vocal, but he prefers to lead through action.
“My d-line coach wants me to speak up more, but I’m a quiet player. I talk when I need to, but I don’t hype people up. I stay calm, focused, and help wherever I can,” he added.
In preparation for his college career as an interior defensive lineman, Dawson has added 30 pounds since December, bringing his weight to 290. Despite the added bulk, he has continued to improve his speed and agility.
“He’s done a lot with his body this offseason,” said head coach Cain Sams. “He understood the need to add size, and he’s done that without losing his mobility.”
Dawson is set to make his official visit to Louisville the weekend of June 6. While he’s already seen the football facilities, he’s looking forward to experiencing more of the campus.
“I haven’t seen the academic side yet,” he said. “When I visit, I’d like to tour the campus and see my dorm. That would be great.”
Louisville’s 2026 recruiting class currently includes 13 commitments, and Dawson is shaping up to be a key part of the program’s future.
