The Buffalo Bills kept their perfect season alive on Sunday as they hosted the New Orleans Saints, but the biggest headlines belonged to quarterback Josh Allen, who etched his name even deeper into franchise and NFL history.
Allen entered Week 4 already carrying the momentum of an MVP season in 2024. Through Buffalo’s first three games of 2025, he had thrown for 755 yards with five passing touchdowns, while also contributing 114 rushing yards and two scores on the ground. His dual-threat ability has been the foundation of the Bills’ offense, and against the Saints, he added new milestones to his career résumé.
Breaking a Franchise Record
Coming into the game, Allen had accounted for 69 scrimmage touchdowns during his nine seasons with Buffalo—67 by rushing and two by receiving—tying Hall of Famer O.J. Simpson for third on the Bills’ all-time list. That changed in the third quarter when Allen powered into the end zone for his 70th scrimmage touchdown. The score moved him past Simpson, leaving him behind only wide receiver Andre Reed and running back Thurman Thomas, both tied for the franchise lead at 87.
“Josh Allen runs it in on the five-yard rushing TD, marking his 70th career scrimmage TD and surpassing O.J. Simpson (69) for the third-most in team history,” the team’s PR department announced on X.
Tying an NFL Legend
Allen’s achievements weren’t limited to Buffalo’s record books. In the opening quarter, he connected with wide receiver Kahlil Shakir on a 43-yard touchdown pass. That play gave him a passing touchdown to go along with his rushing score, marking the 45th time in his career that he recorded both in the same game. That ties him with former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton for the most such games in NFL history, highlighting Allen’s unique blend of passing precision and rushing power.
A Defining Career Arc
Allen’s rise from a little-known Wyoming quarterback to one of the league’s most dynamic stars has been one of the defining stories of the past decade in Buffalo. His ability to consistently produce through the air and on the ground has reshaped the Bills’ offense and lifted the franchise into perennial contention. With Reed and Thomas in sight, Allen is now within striking distance of holding one of Buffalo’s most significant career records.
Looking Ahead
The Bills will continue their pursuit of an undefeated season in Week 5, when they host rookie quarterback Drake Maye and the New England Patriots in a primetime “Sunday Night Football” matchup. With Allen in record-breaking form, Buffalo remains one of the most dangerous teams in the league and a clear contender in the AFC.
