The St. Louis Blues have locked in forward Nathan Walker with a new two-year deal worth $1.775 million, the team confirmed Wednesday. The contract, carrying an annual cap hit of $887,500, ensures Walker will stay in St. Louis through the 2026–27 season.
Walker, now 31, enjoyed his best NHL season in 2024–25, tallying eight goals and eight assists for 16 points. He played a big role in the Blues’ playoff push, tying for the team lead in goals during their first-round series against the Winnipeg Jets with three. Known for his physical edge, Walker also led St. Louis in both hits (281) and penalty minutes (63).
Drafted by the Washington Capitals in 2014, Walker made history as the first Australian player to be selected in the NHL Draft. Since then, he has appeared in 229 league games, posting 28 goals and 28 assists, and was part of the Capitals’ Stanley Cup-winning roster in 2018. Since joining the Blues in 2019, he has built a reputation as a hard-nosed depth forward, averaging just over 12 minutes of ice time last season while playing on the “WTF” line with Alexey Toropchenko and Radek Faksa.
Heading into the new season, Walker is expected to continue anchoring the Blues’ fourth line. While his full set of linemates has yet to be finalized, Toropchenko is projected to remain alongside him, giving St. Louis continuity on a physical and dependable checking unit.
For the Blues, the extension provides valuable depth and toughness in the bottom six while rewarding Walker for his consistency and leadership. The move signals the organization’s confidence in his ability to contribute at both ends of the ice as they shape their roster for the future.
