The St. Louis Blues enter the 2025-26 season with plenty of expectations. After surprising many by reaching the playoffs and taking their first-round series to seven games, belief is growing that this team can once again contend. To achieve that, several key areas of the roster must step up.
The Offer Sheet Duo
Two of the Blues’ most important acquisitions, Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg, will play major roles this year.
Holloway had a breakout season with 63 points (26 goals, 37 assists) in 77 games, showcasing dynamic play and establishing himself as one of the team’s top young stars. The big question is whether he can build on that success and reach the 30-goal mark, or if a regression is likely as opponents adjust to his style. Still only 24, Holloway has room to grow, and another leap forward could be game-changing for St. Louis.
On the defensive side, Broberg posted 29 points (8 goals, 21 assists) in 68 games. While his offensive numbers were modest, his defensive reliability stood out. With steady play in his own zone and the potential for growth offensively, Broberg is well-positioned to have a breakout year. If he gets a little more puck luck, his contributions could prove critical.
Logan Mailloux
Another player to watch is 22-year-old defenseman Logan Mailloux, who is expected to take a spot on the Blues’ bottom pairing. Last season in the AHL, he produced 33 points (12 goals, 21 assists) in 63 games, showing strong offensive instincts from the blue line. His ability to score as well as set up plays makes him an intriguing wild card. While there’s always the risk of a learning curve at the NHL level, if Mailloux adapts quickly, he could make a significant impact and help solidify the Blues’ defense.
Cam Fowler
Veteran defenseman Cam Fowler will also be crucial. Entering his age-34 season, Fowler was impressive last year with 36 points (9 goals, 27 assists) in 51 games. He looked rejuvenated in St. Louis under Jim Montgomery’s system and was one of the team’s best players in the playoffs. At his age, major improvement isn’t expected, but if he can sustain last season’s level, the Blues will benefit from having a steady presence on their top defensive pair.
Outlook
The Blues face several questions heading into 2025-26, but these X-factors could determine whether they take another step forward or fall short. If Holloway, Broberg, Mailloux, and Fowler deliver, St. Louis could once again surprise the league and push toward a deep playoff run.
