Norwich City midfielder Marcelino Núñez is once again attracting attention, with Turkish side Trabzonspor reportedly reigniting their interest in the Chilean international.
Núñez has under a year remaining on his contract, and according to The Pink Un, Norwich are open to selling the 25-year-old if a suitable offer is made. Núñez originally joined the club in 2022 from Universidad Católica for around £3.3 million and has since made over 100 appearances, becoming a consistent performer for the team.
Previous and Current Interest
Trabzonspor previously tried to sign Núñez last summer, reportedly offering €3.5 million—an offer Norwich rejected. However, Turkish outlet Fotomac now reports that the club may return with renewed efforts to sign him. While Trabzonspor are also looking at Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini, the cost and his injury record could make Núñez a more viable option.
Spanish clubs are also said to be monitoring Núñez’s situation.
Squad Changes at Norwich
New head coach Liam Manning, who replaced Johannes Hoff Thorup, is navigating a challenging summer as several players continue to draw interest from other clubs. Borja Sainz has already joined Porto, and Josh Sargent is also attracting attention.
Manning has acknowledged that the squad may need to be trimmed.
“We’re a bit overloaded in terms of numbers,” Manning admitted. “That means some players won’t get the minutes they want. So we’re having honest conversations about their roles moving forward.”
The arrivals of Jacob Wright from Manchester City and Mirko Topić from Famalicão have added depth to the midfield, making Núñez’s potential departure more manageable from a squad standpoint.
What’s Next for Núñez and Norwich?
If Norwich are not planning to extend Núñez’s contract, or if the player is seeking a new challenge, the club may look to sell him this summer rather than risk losing him for free in 2026.
While it would be disappointing to lose a key player, letting him go could make sense given the team’s current depth and the broader goal of streamlining the squad for the new season.
