Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is widely regarded as one of the NFL’s elite passers. Recently, sports commentator Nick Wright offered high praise for Burrow, even ranking him above Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen in his latest quarterback rankings.
During a recent episode of First Things First, Wright pushed back against Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s view that Burrow is the second-best quarterback in the league behind Patrick Mahomes. Wright acknowledged Burrow’s excellence but said Allen’s recent performance pushed him ahead.
“Maybe Burrow is the second-best quarterback in football. Not because Burrow wasn’t excellent — he was — but because of how impressive Josh Allen was last year,” Wright explained. “He led a team that many thought lacked the talent to contend, yet he still won MVP and reached his second conference championship. I’ve always been a Joe Burrow supporter, but right now, I think Josh Allen is simply the better player.”
Despite the debate, Burrow’s 2024 season was statistically strong, finishing with 4,918 passing yards. The Bengals are hoping he can lead them even further in 2025, starting with their season opener against the Cleveland Browns.
In a more unusual anecdote, a former coach — who also teaches sociology — once remarked that Burrow’s calm and steady demeanor could resemble traits often seen in serial killers. The coach jokingly compared Burrow to the fictional character Dexter due to his emotional control, a quality that may now contribute to his poise on the field.
As the 2025 season approaches, Burrow remains a central figure in NFL discussions, with debates continuing over whether he or Allen deserves the title of Mahomes’ closest competitor.
