MLB Suspends Jazz Chisholm for In-Game Social Media Post
New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm has been suspended for one game and fined by Major League Baseball after violating the league’s social media policy during a game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The incident occurred on Thursday when Chisholm was ejected in the seventh inning after disputing a low strike-three call made by home plate umpire John Bacon. While the game was still underway, Chisholm posted a four-word, profanity-laced comment on his social media account criticizing the call. The post was later deleted.
According to MLB, the suspension was issued due to Chisholm’s conduct, including his use of social media during the game—a direct violation of league rules. MLB’s Social Media Policy explicitly bans players from using electronic devices during games and from posting content that questions or criticizes umpires’ impartiality.
Chisholm is currently appealing the suspension and remains in the Yankees lineup for Friday’s game, though he is expected to serve the one-game ban once the appeal process concludes.
This adds to a tough start to the season for Chisholm, who is batting just .169 through 19 games, despite hitting six home runs and driving in 11 runs.
