Bills Expected to Make Aggressive Draft Move
The Buffalo Bills have traded up in the NFL Draft in two of the past three years, and they may be ready to do it again in 2025. With holes to fill on defense—especially after losing players to suspensions and free agency—insiders believe the team could take an aggressive approach to improve their roster.
According to ESPN’s Matt Miller, the Bills are expected to be “active and aggressive” as they work to address key needs. The team holds 10 draft picks, including two in the second round, giving them flexibility to move up in the first round. A rival scout told Miller not to be surprised if Buffalo targets a top defensive player by trading up.
General Manager Brandon Beane has a history of making bold draft-day moves, previously trading up in 2022 to draft cornerback Kaiir Elam and in 2023 to select tight end Dalton Kincaid.
ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg noted that the defensive line is a key focus for Buffalo this year, especially after defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi and defensive end Michael Hoecht received six-game suspensions for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy. Even without those suspensions, the Bills have consistently prioritized building strength along the line of scrimmage.
“There are plenty of options for the Bills in the early rounds depending on how the draft unfolds,” Getzenberg wrote, emphasizing the team’s philosophy of investing in the trenches.
If the Bills decide to stay with the 30th overall pick, they still have options. NFL.com’s Eric Edholm previously predicted Buffalo might target Michigan defensive tackle Kenneth Grant, describing him as a physically dominant player who could eventually take over for veteran DaQuan Jones.
Lance Zierlein of NFL.com described Grant as a powerful nose tackle who excels at beating blockers but may need to develop more consistency to become a top-tier starter.
Buffalo has already retooled its defensive front this offseason, releasing edge rusher Von Miller and signing Pro Bowl pass rusher Joey Bosa. The team struggled at times to pressure the quarterback in 2024, particularly during their AFC Championship loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
