Peterborough United and Stockport County battle it out for non-league star

Peterborough United and Stockport County are set to compete for the signing of AFC Fylde player Taelor O’Kane, according to Football Insider. Both teams will be playing in League One next season.

Posh finished 4th in League One last season but were defeated by Oxford United in the play-off semi-finals, with Oxford eventually gaining promotion.

Stockport County are set to enter their first season back in the third tier after an impressive campaign last year. They clinched the fourth-tier title and secured comfortable automatic promotion, but their focus is now on surviving in the higher league.

O’Kane, aged 18, played 19 games in the National League for AFC Fylde last season, scoring four goals for the fifth-tier club and making an additional appearance in the FA Cup.

His standout performances have caught the attention of Football League clubs, with League One sides Peterborough United and Stockport County both showing interest in securing his services this summer.

At just 18 years old, O’Kane shows significant potential, with early indicators suggesting he could develop into a formidable player in the future.

The central midfielder has shown he can contribute goals, which is always a welcome addition from midfield, and it appears he’s on the brink of earning a chance in the Football League.

AFC Fylde ended last season in 18th place, and with interest coming from higher leagues, it will be challenging for them to retain O’Kane.

Looking ahead

The 18-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at AFC Fylde, making this summer potentially the ideal time for his sale.

This move would allow the National League club to recover some funds from his transfer fee and reinvest them into their squad.

Peterborough United aims to compete for a top-six finish this season, while David Challinor’s Stockport County aims to establish themselves in League One before progressing further.

The outcome of this transfer will be intriguing to watch, as both sides vie for the talented prospect’s signature this year.
