There’s both encouraging and concerning news for the Buffalo Bills ahead of their Monday Night Football clash with the Atlanta Falcons.
The good news is that defensive tackle Ed Oliver and linebacker Dorian Williams are expected to play. Oliver’s return, after missing several games since Week 1, is a major boost for a defense that has struggled to stay consistent. He’s likely to line up alongside rookie Deone Walker for the first time. However, the Bills will be without defensive tackle T.J. Sanders, who was placed on Injured Reserve and is set to undergo knee surgery. That leaves Buffalo with only three active defensive tackles. Since Zion Logue has exhausted his practice squad elevations, Phidarian Mathis may be called up for Monday’s game.
Williams’ knee injury has improved, and he practiced all week, but Matt Milano remains sidelined with a pectoral injury. The Bills chose not to place Milano on IR, suggesting optimism that he could return before Week 11. Meanwhile, linebacker Jimmy Ciarlo, recently promoted to the active roster, will provide depth among the five available linebackers.
Wide receiver Curtis Samuel, who caught two passes and a touchdown last week, has been limited all week with neck and rib injuries. With six receivers on the roster and one typically inactive each week, Samuel is likely to sit out, giving Elijah Moore another opportunity to prove himself.
Tight end Dalton Kincaid is also listed as questionable due to an oblique injury. After showing flashes of the potential that made him a first-round pick, Kincaid’s durability remains a concern. He has averaged over 14 yards per catch and scored three touchdowns this season, but his limited participation in practice raises doubts about his availability.
On the defensive side, safety Damar Hamlin joined Sanders on Injured Reserve after suffering a pectoral injury in practice. The move suggests his injury is more serious than Milano’s. With Hamlin out, the Bills may activate a safety from the practice squad — possibly Jordan Poyer, who could make his return in a Bills uniform. Rookie Jordan Hancock is also available and has played sparingly this season.
In summary, Buffalo gets some key reinforcements in Oliver and Williams but continues to battle injuries across several positions. As the team prepares for Monday night’s matchup, depth and adaptability will once again be tested at One Bills Drive.
