The New York Jets had a chance in Week 2 to show real progress under new head coach Aaron Glenn. Instead, they fell flat in a 30-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills, a game in which they never looked competitive. To make matters worse, they also lost several key players, including quarterback Justin Fields, who left with a concussion after a sack in the second half. Defenders Jermaine Johnson (ankle) and Michael Carter II (shoulder) also exited with injuries.
The Week 1 loss to the Steelers had been painful but offered signs of promise. The Jets’ offense looked more dynamic, and the team seemed committed to Glenn’s culture. But against Buffalo, all of that progress evaporated. Bills fans gave their team a standing ovation as they walked off the field — a stark contrast to the Jets’ deflating effort.
Offensive Struggles
Fields struggled from the start, missing a wide-open Garrett Wilson on third down of the opening drive. He then fumbled on the Jets’ next possession. By the time he left the game, he had completed just 3-of-11 passes for 27 yards, though he did add 49 rushing yards. The offense managed only 100 total yards midway through the fourth quarter, and their only meaningful points came from a 51-yard Nick Folk field goal in the second quarter.
Defensive Breakdown
If the offense was ineffective, the defense wasn’t much better. The Jets gave up their most rushing yards in a game since 2021 and were repeatedly undone by costly penalties and poor discipline. Josh Allen capitalized, including a 45-yard run on a third-and-long when blitzers overran him. Once considered a top-three defense, the Jets’ unit now looks closer to one of the league’s worst.
Coach’s Reaction
After the game, Glenn didn’t hold back. “It’s not OK to lose like that,” he said. “If guys aren’t willing to match the standard, we’ll find players who will. Wearing green and white should mean something — right now, it doesn’t look like it does.” His pointed comments underscored just how badly the Jets’ performance fell short of expectations.
Tough Road Ahead
The Jets are still searching for their first win of the Aaron Glenn era, and the upcoming schedule won’t make it easy. They face back-to-back road games in Florida — first at Tampa Bay, then at Miami, where they haven’t won in more than a decade. If they can’t win in Miami, they’ll head into an Oct. 5 matchup with the Cowboys at MetLife Stadium still winless.
