
veteran defenceman Marco Scandella announced his retirement from professional hockey. The 35-year-old last played in the NHL during the 2023-24 season with the St. Louis Blues.
Scandella ends his career with 51 goals and 119 assists in 784 regular-season games, along with six goals and three assists in 56 playoff appearances. Known as a steady presence on the ice, he was respected for his leadership and commitment to his teams.
Career Journey
Scandella began his NHL career with the Minnesota Wild, where he contributed to the team’s first-round upset over the Colorado Avalanche in 2014 and helped them reach the second round in 2015, though both runs ended against the Chicago Blackhawks.
He was later traded to the Buffalo Sabres, and during the 2019-20 season, he had a brief stint with the Montreal Canadiens before being moved again to the St. Louis Blues. Scandella signed an extension in St. Louis, finishing his career there.
International Play
Representing Canada, Scandella earned a gold medal at the 2008 World Under-18 Championships and a silver medal at the 2010 World Junior Championships, scoring once in each tournament.
