The NFL is introducing a unique uniform feature to recognize last season’s most prestigious award winners.
For the first time in league history, the five recipients of the top Associated Press awards will wear jerseys marked with a gold-trimmed NFL shield patch. This special emblem replaces the standard league logo typically displayed at the collar of NFL jerseys.
The players set to wear the gold patch include 2024 NFL MVP Josh Allen, Offensive Player of the Year Saquon Barkley, Defensive Player of the Year Pat Surtain II, and Rookie of the Year winners Jayden Daniels and Jared Verse. All five will sport the custom patch throughout the 2025 regular season and playoffs.
According to ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg, the new initiative is not expected to be a one-time occurrence. The NFL plans to continue honoring major award winners in future seasons with this uniform distinction.
The idea mirrors a practice already adopted by Major League Baseball, where top award recipients currently wear gold-trimmed logos on their uniforms. For Allen and the Buffalo Bills, the debut of the gold patch will come in their season opener against the Baltimore Ravens, where it will stand out especially well with Buffalo’s all-white alternate uniforms.
