Cardinals Place Alec Burleson, Yohel Pozo on Injured List
The St. Louis Cardinals’ 2025 season continues to take a difficult turn as September approaches. After moving several veterans at the trade deadline to focus on the future, the team now faces more setbacks with two additional players sidelined.
On Friday, ahead of their weekend series against the Cincinnati Reds, the Cardinals announced that Alec Burleson has been placed on the 10-day injured list while Yohel Pozo has been added to the seven-day concussion list.
Burleson, 26, had been dealing with wrist discomfort and previously missed time last week. Though he returned to action, the inflammation flared up again, forcing him to leave Thursday’s game against the Pirates. He will now focus on recovery and rehabilitation.
Pozo, 28, suffered concussion-like symptoms after taking a foul tip off his mask in the same game. Following further evaluation, the team decided to place him on the injured list for precautionary reasons.
To fill the roster spots, St. Louis called up catcher Jimmy Crooks and infielder Cesar Prieto, both of whom are set to make their major league debuts this weekend. The Cardinals hope the young players can provide a spark as they continue their push to remain competitive late in the season.
