The 2025 NBA trade deadline was one of the busiest in league history, with nine All-Stars switching teams. Big names such as Luka Dončić, Anthony Davis, Jimmy Butler, De’Aaron Fox, Zach LaVine, Brandon Ingram, Andrew Wiggins, Khris Middleton, and D’Angelo Russell all found new homes. Looking ahead, analysts believe the 2026 deadline could be even more eventful.
According to Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes, five major players are expected to dominate trade discussions: LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Trae Young, Jonathan Kuminga, and Coby White. Each of these stars faces unique circumstances that may push their teams toward considering blockbuster deals.
For Giannis, questions remain about Milwaukee’s long-term competitiveness. Despite moving on from Damian Lillard and signing Myles Turner, the Bucks have not looked like true championship contenders. Hughes noted that if the team continues to struggle, pressure to trade the two-time MVP will only grow louder.
LeBron’s situation is also complicated. Even after opting into his 2025–26 contract, the Lakers still face steep competition in the West. At 23 seasons in, LeBron remains a top performer and is chasing another championship. However, Hughes argued that his $53 million salary, expiring deal, and desire to compete could make him a serious trade candidate, especially if Los Angeles risks losing him for nothing in free agency.
Trae Young may also be nearing the end of his time in Atlanta. Reports suggest he is unhappy about not receiving a contract extension, leaving open the possibility of testing free agency. Meanwhile, Kuminga may be forced into a qualifying offer with Golden State, and Coby White — on a team-friendly expiring contract — could be moved by Chicago. With so many uncertain futures, the 2026 trade deadline could once again reshape the NBA landscape.
