Buffalo Bills running back James Cook made a strong statement this week regarding his ongoing contract negotiations. While quarterback Josh Allen continues to receive much of the spotlight for the team’s recent success, Cook emphasized that his own contributions on the field deserve recognition and proper compensation.
Over the past two seasons, Cook has been a key part of Buffalo’s offense, rushing for over 1,000 yards each year while also contributing as a receiving threat. His dual-threat abilities have made him one of the most productive running backs in the league, and he believes his performance justifies a significant contract extension.
Cook expressed confidence that he will eventually receive the deal he’s looking for. In a recent interview, he said talks with the team are ongoing and that he is committed to staying focused. “I deserve it—what I want, what I need. It’s going to eventually happen,” he said, affirming his belief that his value will be recognized, whether by the Bills or another team.
Reports indicate that Cook is seeking a contract worth around $15 million per year. Currently, only a few running backs in the league—such as Christian McCaffrey, Saquon Barkley, and Derrick Henry—are earning salaries in that range. Cook’s production places him in that conversation, but it remains uncertain whether the Bills will meet those terms.
If Buffalo doesn’t offer the deal Cook is aiming for, he may test free agency once his rookie contract ends. When asked about his confidence in securing the deal he wants, Cook responded, “Wherever it happens, it’s going to get done.” His comments suggest he’s open to exploring options beyond Buffalo to secure the compensation he believes he has earned.
