Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. has officially been announced as the final participant in the 2025 MLB Home Run Derby. The announcement came during ESPN’s preview show, completing a field that already includes stars like Ronald Acuña Jr., Cal Raleigh, Oneil Cruz, Brent Rooker, Byron Buxton, Junior Caminero, and James Wood.
This marks Chisholm’s first MLB Home Run Derby appearance, though he’s no stranger to the format. He has previously competed in similar events in his home country of the Bahamas. Chisholm earned a spot in this year’s All-Star Game — his second career selection — after an impressive start to the 2025 season.
In 2024, Chisholm hit a career-high 24 home runs during a split season between the Marlins and Yankees. This year, he’s already tallied 17 homers in just 61 games, putting him on pace to surpass his previous best. His combination of power and flair has made him a fan favorite in New York.
The Derby will air live on ESPN at 8 p.m. ET on Monday, July 14. If Chisholm wins, he’ll become the fifth Yankee to do so, joining a prestigious list that includes Tino Martinez, Jason Giambi, Robinson Canó, and Aaron Judge. Judge, although invited again, declined — staying consistent with his stance that he’ll only return to the Derby if it’s held in New York again.
Chisholm is the first Yankee to participate in the Derby since both Judge and Gary Sánchez took part in 2017. As he steps into the national spotlight, fans will be watching to see if he can bring another Derby trophy back to the Bronx.
