The New York Yankees continue to slip in the American League standings after weeks of inconsistent performances. As the MLB trade deadline approaches, the pressure is on for the Yankees to make significant roster moves—particularly in the infield, starting rotation, and bullpen.
Among those at risk of being moved is former top prospect Oswald Peraza. In a recent report, Yardbarker’s Jacob Mountz argued that it’s time for the Yankees to part ways with Peraza, citing his poor offensive output this season.
“Peraza is hitting just .154 with three home runs in 130 at-bats,” Mountz wrote. “He’s out of minor-league options and only made the Opening Day roster due to a lack of alternatives. With Oswaldo Cabrera injured, Peraza has seen more time at third base, further exposing the Yankees’ roster deficiencies.”
Peraza’s .487 OPS ranks as the third-lowest among all third basemen with at least 100 at-bats, outperforming only Jonah Bride and Josh Rojas. The Yankees are reportedly exploring a trade for a third baseman before the deadline, with Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Eugenio Suárez named as a possible target.
While it’s unlikely Peraza would carry much trade value given his current form, he may still be included in a package deal. Either way, the Yankees’ front office appears focused on upgrading positions where production has been lacking—and Peraza may be among the first to go.
