Analyst Doubts Josh Allen’s Super Bowl Prospects Until He Beats Patrick Mahomes
Josh Allen remains the face of the Buffalo Bills and one of the league’s top quarterbacks. Despite his standout play and the team’s regular-season success, some analysts remain skeptical about his ability to lead Buffalo to a Super Bowl — largely because the Bills have yet to overcome Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the postseason.
This topic came up during a discussion between ESPN’s Mike Greenberg and analyst Damien Woody. Greenberg asked if this could finally be the year Allen and the Bills break through. Woody responded with caution, saying he won’t believe it until he sees it.
“You’d think this year is set up perfectly for them,” Woody said. “They have the lightest travel schedule in the NFL. The team is solid, but Allen still hasn’t gotten past Mahomes. Until that happens, I’m not convinced.”
Historically, the Bills have struggled against the Chiefs, who had been aiming for a three-peat until the Eagles ended that run earlier this year with a decisive 40–22 win.
Despite the doubts, expectations remain high for Buffalo. They’re currently ranked as having the NFL’s top offense — even ahead of the Chiefs. That’s particularly impressive given the ongoing concern about the lack of a dominant wide receiver. Still, the team has found ways to compensate in other areas, leading to optimism about their offensive potential.
Allen is undoubtedly motivated to change the narrative. He’ll get a chance to challenge Mahomes and the Chiefs in Week 8 of the upcoming season — a matchup that could redefine Buffalo’s path toward a championship.
