1 Dead, 2 Injured In Rollover Crash Involving 4 Cars in Aurora

A four-car crash at the intersection of East New York Street and North Eola Road in Aurora resulted in one death and two injuries on July 24, according to police. Aurora police and firefighters responded to the scene at 8:40 p.m., where they found one of the vehicles had rolled over.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a 2017 gray Dodge Challenger was heading westbound on New York Street when the driver lost control while attempting a lane change. The Dodge then collided with three cars in the southbound lanes of Eola Road: a 2017 white Nissan Rogue, a 2002 silver Toyota Camry, and a 2018 red Honda Accord.

The driver of the Camry, 44-year-old Gerardo Cuatzo of Portland Lane in Aurora, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead. Two other individuals were hospitalized with minor injuries.

The driver of the Dodge, 19-year-old Ailisa Gutierrez of Daisy Street in Aurora, was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Police have stated that they will provide updates if additional charges are filed by the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Aurora Police Chief Keith Cross expressed his condolences, stating, “The loss of life in our community is always tragic. To the family and friends of Mr. Cuatzo, I would like to extend my deepest condolences. I would like to commend our officers and the Aurora Fire Department for their efforts to save the lives of those involved in this tragedy.”
