JUST NOW: Emergency services called to M62 crash near junction 23

Emergency services responded swiftly to a motorway collision this morning that has led to significant traffic delays. The incident occurred on the westbound side of the M62 between Junction 23 (Huddersfield) and Junction 22 (Rishworth Moor).

National Highways: Yorkshire first alerted the public about the crash on X (formerly known as Twitter) at 6:45 a.m.

Initially, two of the three lanes—lanes one and two—were closed as emergency crews worked to manage the situation. The Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) was still on the scene as of 6:51 a.m., according to National Highways: Yorkshire.

A YAS spokesperson provided further details, stating, “We received an emergency call at 6:12 a.m. on Wednesday morning regarding a collision involving one car on the M62 westbound between Junctions 23 and 22. An ambulance was dispatched, but fortunately, no one required transportation to the hospital.”

West Yorkshire Police also confirmed that the incident was a “damage only” collision, with no serious injuries reported. Officers were on-site to assist with the safe recovery of the vehicle, which necessitated the temporary lane closures.

By 7:20 a.m., National Highways: Yorkshire announced that the scene had been cleared and all lanes had reopened. However, they cautioned drivers about residual delays, which were expected to last at least two hours.

Congestion was reported to stretch back to Junction 24 (Ainley Top), with traffic moving as slowly as four miles per hour near Junctions 23 and 24, according to National Highways’ traffic monitoring system. At Junction 25 (Brighouse), the average speed was only 13 miles per hour.

The Telegraph & Argus has reached out to West Yorkshire Police and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service for more information.
