Blues boss Maher confirms transfer talks have ended with midfielder

Southend United boss Kevin Maher has confirmed that the club is no longer in transfer negotiations with Rafferty Pedder.

The former Queens Park Rangers midfielder had been on trial with the Shrimpers during pre-season. However, as the Echo reported earlier this week, Blues have now concluded their discussions with the 22-year-old, who featured in friendlies against Gillingham and Ballyfermot United.

“We offered him a short-term deal that could lead to something longer once he got some games in, similar to what we do with many of our players. It was all incentive-based, just like the contracts many of our young players have.

He wanted it structured differently, but we weren’t going to change how we operate as a club or what we do.

The last time I spoke to him, he was exploring other options, including opportunities abroad.”
