Trent Robinson blasts ‘mad’ Mitchell Moses speculation amid revelation over Sam Walker

Trent Robinson has strongly dismissed rumors that Mitchell Moses rejected the Eels to join the Roosters, reaffirming his commitment to re-signing Sam Walker. Recently, Moses has been linked to a potential move to the Roosters, despite being under contract with the Eels until the end of 2026.

The Blues halfback has a clause in his contract that could extend his stay with Parramatta for an additional two NRL seasons. However, speculation arose that the Roosters might be interested in him, especially after his strong State of Origin performances, as Walker’s contract with the Roosters is set to expire in 2026.

The Roosters are expected to have significant salary cap space with several key players leaving at the end of 2024, including Luke Keary, whose departure will end his halves partnership with Walker. Walker has had an impressive season as the Roosters’ No.7 and remains a focal point of contract negotiations.

Intense speculation has suggested that the Roosters might consider Moses as a long-term replacement for Walker if a deal isn’t reached. However, Robinson has categorically denied any possibility of Moses joining the Roosters, stating that the rumors have been fabricated by the media. He also expressed concern about the impact of these rumors on Walker as the club works to secure his future.

“Moses is an outstanding player, and we tried to sign him a few years ago, but there hasn’t been a single conversation about it,” the three-time premiership-winning coach said on Thursday.

“It’s frustrating because it creates unnecessary noise while we’re trying to re-sign Sam, and then rumors about someone we’ve never even discussed come up. It disrupts things for several days, and here we are still talking about it. That’s the reality of our world.”
