JUST NOW: Boy, 17, dies in Bromley motorbike crash 

A 17-year-old boy died after a crash in South London late last night (Sunday, June 9). Another teenage boy who was with him was taken to hospital before being arrested.

They were found by an off-duty police officer on a busy road in Biggin Hill.

Detectives believe that the motorbike may have been near a car around the time of the collision, but that car did not stop at the scene.

Police are trying to trace the driver.

Main Road in Biggin Hill has been closed since midnight in both directions between Saltbox Hill and Sunningvale Avenue.

The following six London buses were on diversion as a result of the investigation work: 246, 320, 464, 664, 684, and R2.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “At around 11.58pm on Sunday, June 9, an off-duty police officer came across a motorbike that had been involved in a collision in Main Road, Biggin Hill. Two males, both teenagers, were provided with first aid prior to the arrival of London Ambulance Service.

“Despite the efforts of emergency services, one of the males, aged 17, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed and will be supported by specialist officers.

“A second male was taken to hospital, where his condition was assessed as not life-threatening. He has been arrested and taken to a south London police station.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 11.59pm on Sunday June 9, to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Main Road and Sunningvale Avenue, Biggin Hill. We sent ambulance crew and paramedics in fast response cars to the scene.

“Our first paramedics arrived on scene in approximately five minutes. Sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
