SAD NEWS: Leigh Leopards coach provides concerning update on Matt Moylan injury

Leigh Leopards head coach provided a worrying update on Matt Moylan’s injury following recent matches. Moylan, who had returned to the starting line-up against Wigan Warriors on Tuesday night (August 6) after missing the Leopards’ victory over Castleford Tigers, struggled visibly during the first half at The Brick Community Stadium. Despite starting at full-back, it was clear that he was playing through discomfort, leading to his withdrawal at halftime. Moylan was subsequently left out of the squad for Sunday’s home game against Hull FC, where Leigh secured a convincing 42-12 win.

During the match, Zak Hardaker filled in at full-back, scoring two tries against Hull FC, the club he will join next season, while Jack Hughes continued in the stand-off role. Although Moylan was seen in good spirits at the Leopards’ Den, where he took on a watching role, head coach Lam revealed that Moylan’s injury might be more serious than initially thought. “With Matt, the position of his rib cartilage is in a bad spot really,” Lam explained. “We’ve found that out this week, so it may be longer than what we anticipated originally. We were hoping for his return against Salford, but it looks like that may not be the case.”

On a positive note, Lam mentioned the return of key players, stating, “It was good to have Tom Amone back today, and we’ll get Gaz O’Brien back next week. We’ll get some players back, and that’s not going to win us the game, but it’ll certainly give us more movement and a bit more cohesion, which we haven’t had over the last four or five weeks.” After their upcoming match against Salford Red Devils at Elland Road during Magic Weekend on Sunday, August 18, Leigh Leopards are set to face the bottom-placed London Broncos.
