INJURY: Massive blow for the Posh as midfielder faces lengthy spell on the sidelines

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson is concerned that on-loan Manchester City midfielder Mahamadou Susoho could be sidelined for an extended period. The 19-year-old suffered a thigh injury during the warm-up before Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup first-round loss to Oxford United and was forced to withdraw from the starting lineup. Rookie midfielder Donay O’Brien-Brady stepped in to replace him.

“He took a shot during the warm-up and felt a ‘pop’ in his thigh,” Ferguson said. “It doesn’t look promising. He’s really struggling and had difficulty walking after the game. He’s had this injury before and required surgery. I’m not saying it’s as severe this time, but I’m worried it could keep him out for a while.

“We haven’t had much luck with injuries lately. They’re part of football, but we’re dealing with too many right now, with Hector Kyprianou and George Nevett also out, though they should only miss one more game.”

Ferguson also confirmed that Swedish central defender Oscar Wallin was substituted in the final minutes of Tuesday’s match due to cramp.

“Oscar was excellent and only came off because of cramp,” Ferguson added. “He’s going to be a great signing for us, but the Saturday-Tuesday schedule is challenging for him at this stage.”
