JUST IN: Melbourne City re-sign ‘one of Australia’s brightest young talents’: ‘A revelation’

Melbourne City teenager Shelby McMahon has secured a three-year contract with the Liberty A-League champions.

Recognized as “one of Australia’s brightest young talents,” the 16-year-old has been rewarded for her impressive performances since joining as an injury replacement for Holly McNamara in January.

McMahon, a Junior Matildas midfielder, made a notable impact by scoring two goals in seven appearances, including the decisive goal that secured the Premier’s Plate and contributed to City’s run to the 2023-24 Grand Final.

“I absolutely loved my first season at City and learned so much in just a few short months,” McMahon said. “Being able to learn from my teammates has been huge for my development, and I’m incredibly grateful to the team and the club.”

She added, “I can’t wait to continue this journey together and help fight for more silverware in the A-League and the AFC Women’s Champions League.”

McMahon’s three-year contract follows the re-signings of Taylor Otto, Bryleeh Henry, Laura Hughes, and Karly Roestbakken (through 2025-26) with City.

The club has also brought in new signings, including Alexia Apostolakis, Mariana Speckmaier, Malena Mieres (through 2024-25), and Emilia Murray.
