Brisbane Broncos set to loose powerhouse as link to Super League club emerges

Martin Taupau’s name has resurfaced as a potential Super League recruit for 2025, with Leeds Rhinos particularly linked to the powerhouse forward.

Taupau has been frequently connected to a Super League move over the years, but this time, the prospect of him joining seems more plausible than ever. His contract with the Brisbane Broncos expires at the end of this season, and reports from Australia suggest that he is open to discussions with Super League clubs about a potential move.

These rumors were further fueled by Sky Sports’ Jon Wells on Thursday night, during the lead-up to St Helens’ Super League match against Salford Red Devils.

“Could Brisbane forward Marty Taupau be on his way to Super League next year?” Wells asked. “I understand he is talking to Super League clubs.”

Wells went on to specifically name Leeds Rhinos as a potential destination for Taupau, as they aim to build a competitive squad for 2025.

Wells added, “Could he become a Rhino next year?”

Taupau’s potential move to Super League would be significant, but his salary could pose a challenge. As reported by Love Rugby League in June, Taupau currently earns $350,000 at the Broncos—roughly £182,000. Matching this salary in Super League would likely require marquee player status.

This financial aspect could complicate any potential deal, but with several clubs still having quota spots available for 2025, Taupau would have multiple options if he decides to make the move as has been reported.
