Wellington Phoenix midfielder departs to join rivals

Attacking midfielder Bozhidar Kraev has departed Wellington Phoenix to join A-League rivals Western Sydney Wanderers. Following the Phoenix’s confirmation of his departure, Wanderers swiftly announced the Bulgarian international as their first signing under new head coach Alen Stajcic, who has taken over from Marko Rudan.

Kraev expressed his motivation to join the Wanderers, highlighting the club’s strong interest in him as a crucial factor in his decision. Wellington Phoenix confirmed Kraev’s departure earlier, stating they would not be renewing his contract for a third A-League season. During his tenure with the Phoenix, Kraev made 54 appearances, scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists. He was a significant part of the team’s recent successes and expressed gratitude for his time in Wellington, thanking players, coaches, staff, and supporters.
