Released Rotherham United man has found a new home

Northampton have signed striker Tom Eaves on a free transfer following his departure from Rotherham United.

The 32-year-old has inked a two-year contract at Sixfields, becoming Northampton’s sixth new signing ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Eaves joins after spending two years back at Rotherham in his second stint with the Millers, where he scored six goals in 35 appearances across all competitions last season. He previously had a standout period with Gillingham between 2017 and 2019, netting 40 goals in all competitions.

Eaves then spent three seasons with Hull City, helping them secure promotion from League One in the 2020/21 campaign, followed by two more years in the Championship with Rotherham.

He follows the signings of James Wilson, Nik Tzanev, Callum Morton, Cameron McGeehan, and Jack Baldwin.

Cobblers boss Jon Brady praised the acquisition, telling the club’s official website, “Tom is a quality addition to the squad. He has a physical presence and we believe he will blend and balance well with the other strikers we have.

“He isn’t just about physical presence; he is very mobile and capable of skillful finishes, as his record shows. He has a good goal-to-games record.

“He finished last season strongly in the Championship, scoring twice on the final day, and he has spent the last three seasons at that level.

“When a player with Tom’s attributes, experience, goalscoring record, and pedigree becomes available, there is always a lot of interest, and we are delighted to welcome him to Sixfields.”
