Matlock Town has officially announced the signing of Curtis Durose, following his departure from Rotherham United. The non-league club acquired the midfielder on a free transfer after his loan stint last season. This weekend, his new team will compete against Chesterfield in the Ernie Moss Challenge Cup.
Curtis Durose, 20, initially joined the Northern Premier League team in February to gain experience and has now signed with them permanently for the 2024/25 season.
Matlock Town manager Nicky Law commented on their website: “Curtis is another young player who had a good spell on loan at Gainsborough the season before last but was in and out of things when he was at Matlock. He’s a talented lad, and if he can get his head down, work hard, and fulfill his potential, he may get back into League football.”
New home for departed Rotherham United man
Rotherham United made the difficult decision to part ways with Curtis Durose at the end of last season. His contract with the Millers officially expired at the end of last month, making him a free agent.
In recent times, Curtis Durose has been considering his options and has now chosen to re-join Matlock Town, seeking ample game time.
Durose has spent his entire career with Rotherham United, rising through the academy ranks and regularly featuring for the club at various youth levels. He made one appearance for the first team and was loaned out to Scarborough Athletic and Gainsborough Trinity to aid his development.

Curtis Durose has left behind a Rotherham United side that is aiming for an immediate return to the Championship. Steve Evans is back in the dugout and has been active in the transfer market over the past couple of months, enhancing the squad’s quality. New signings include Sean Raggett, Jonson Clarke-Harris, Cameron Dawson, and Joe Rafferty.
