Former Dons keeper signed by league one side

AFC Wimbledon v Oxford United SkyBet League One, Plough Lane, 04 September 2021

Former AFC Wimbledon goalkeeper Nik Tzanev has signed with League One side Northampton Town.

The 27-year-old, released by the Dons at the end of last season, will join the Sixfields Stadium squad as competition for current number one, Lee Burge.

Previously a Sutton loanee, Tzanev made 126 appearances for Wimbledon before losing his starting spot to Sunderland loanee Alex Bass last season in League Two.

Manager Jon Brady said, “We were looking to add another senior keeper to the squad this season, and we are pleased to welcome Nik. He has a good presence, decent experience, and comes highly rated by James Alger.

“Nik will complement, support, and challenge Lee Burge, strengthening our goalkeeping department and adding experience. His arrival also gives us the option to loan out James Dadge to gain regular playing time.

“We have a proud record of developing and improving goalkeepers over the last few years, and we welcome Nik to the group.”
