After a quiet period in free agency, the Buffalo Bills have made a move to strengthen their offensive unit. According to reports, the team has agreed to terms with three veteran players: offensive linemen Austin Corbett and Lloyd Cushenberry III, along with wide receiver Trent Sherfield.
These signings mark a shift in the team’s free agency strategy. Up to this point, the Bills had focused primarily on defensive additions, with their only notable offensive acquisition being backup quarterback Kyle Allen. This latest round of signings adds valuable depth to the offensive line and brings back a familiar face to the receiving corps.
Sherfield returns to Buffalo for a second stint. He previously played for the Bills in 2023, a season in which he recorded 11 catches for 86 yards and a touchdown. That touchdown came on a deflected pass in a critical Week 18 victory over the Miami Dolphins, a win that secured the AFC East title. Since leaving Buffalo, Sherfield has had stints with the Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, and Arizona Cardinals. His return gives him an advantage, as he is already familiar with the offensive system run by coordinator Joe Brady, who took over play-calling duties during Sherfield’s previous tenure with the team.
The offensive line additions provide both experience and versatility. Cushenberry arrives in Buffalo with six years of NFL experience. Originally a fourth-round pick by the Denver Broncos in 2020, he spent four seasons there before signing a lucrative four-year contract with the Tennessee Titans. His time in Tennessee was cut short after two seasons, and he was released following a change in the Titans’ coaching staff.
Corbett, meanwhile, was drafted in the same 2018 class as Bills quarterback Josh Allen. He began his career with the Cleveland Browns and has since played for the Los Angeles Rams and Carolina Panthers. His key attribute is his versatility—he is capable of playing both guard and center, a skill set the Bills highly value. With his arrival, he is expected to compete with Alec Anderson for the starting left guard position, a spot previously held by David Edwards.
While these moves may not be headline-grabbing splashes, they represent solid, strategic depth acquisitions. The signings signal that the Bills intend to foster genuine competition throughout training camp. Sherfield has a strong chance to earn a roster spot, particularly as a contributor on special teams. Similarly, both Corbett and Cushenberry are expected to be in the mix for roles when the final roster is set in September.
