Yankees Reportedly Eyeing Nolan Arenado in Possible Trade
Trade speculation surrounding St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado has resurfaced, with a potential American League contender showing renewed interest.
According to MLB.com’s Marc Feinsand, the New York Yankees may consider pursuing Arenado again ahead of the July 31 trade deadline. The Yankees are seeking upgrades at third base, and there is a possibility that Arenado could be available.
Feinsand also mentioned the Detroit Tigers as another team potentially looking to add a third baseman like Arenado.
However, Arenado holds a no-trade clause and would need to approve any potential deal. Although the Yankees showed some interest during the offseason, they didn’t aggressively pursue him at that time. Arenado has also reportedly blocked a trade to another contender in the past.
The Cardinals’ performance adds complexity to any trade scenario. As of Thursday, they had a 47-41 record and were tied for the second National League Wild Card spot. A downturn in July could increase the chances of Arenado being moved.
Arenado, now 34, is hitting .247 with 10 home runs this season. While his offensive output has declined from earlier in his career, his defense remains strong. He is still owed approximately $74 million over the next three seasons.
