The Pittsburgh Steelers traded wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, partly due to concerns about how he would fit in with new quarterback Aaron Rodgers. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Steelers felt that Pickens’ presence could cause locker room friction with Rodgers.
Pickens was brought to Dallas to be Dak Prescott’s primary receiving target behind CeeDee Lamb. The Steelers reportedly had reservations about Pickens’ maturity and past behavior, which factored into their decision to trade him. His history includes missing a minicamp with the New York Jets last year and some disciplinary issues.
Despite being only 24, Pickens has faced questions about his character. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, known for his strict approach, was reportedly ready to move on from the receiver.
Now entering a contract year, Pickens seems to be on a more focused path with the Cowboys. Rodgers, at 41, is likely aware that he is nearing the end of his career, and there is speculation he may have influenced the Steelers’ decision to trade Pickens to avoid conflict.
